Procedure

A mixture of the compound of part (d) (2.88 g), potassium carbonate (3.9 g), ethyl 4-bromobutyrate (1.7 g) and 2-butanone (25 ml) was heated under reflux for 5 hours. The mixture was cooled, filtered and the filtrate evaporated to give a viscous gum which was purified by flash chromatography (silica, 9:1 hexane/ethyl acetate) to provide the title compound as a clear gum (3.2 g).
