To a stirred suspension of 4-Amino-6-hydroxy-2-mercaptopyrimidine monohydrate (25 g) in DMF (300 ml) was added potassium hydroxide (10.2 g) and water (50 ml). After a clear solution was obtained, 2-fluorobenzyl bromide (29.3 g) was added and the reaction stirred at room temperature for 30 min. The mixture was poured into water (21) and the resulting precipitate isolated by filtration, washing with isopropanol and diethyl ether, affording the subtitled compound as a white solid (34.7 g).
