Procedure

To tert-butyl 3-(2-methoxy-2-oxoethoxy)-3-phenylpyrrolidine-1-carboxylate (160 mg, 0.00048 mol) was added 4 M of hydrogen chloride in 1,4-dioxane (1 mL) and the resulting solution was stirred for 1 h. The reaction mixture was then concentrated in-vauco and the crude product was used directly in the next step.
