Procedure

In a manner similar to Example 3a, by reacting 1 g (2.9 mmol) of dimethyl 4-[3-(3-methyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)propyl]phthalate (Example 2e) with 260 mg (7 mmol) of lithium aluminum hydride. A white solid is obtained (m=740 mg, m.p.=92° C., y=89%).
