Procedure

1-(2-Ethoxycarbonylpropanoyl)-L-hydroxyproline is dissolved in a mixture of methanol (20 ml.) and N sodium hydroxide (20 ml.). After 6 hours the solvent is concentrated in vacuo to half volume and applied to a column of resin Dowex 50 (50 ml.) and eluted with water to obtain 1-(2-carboxypropanoyl)-L-hydroxyproline.
