Procedure
A mixture of 9-ethylenedioxy-15-hydroxyprost-13-enoic acid methyl ester (35 mg), methanol (3 ml) water (0.5 ml) and p-toluenesulfonic acid (10 mg) is allowed to stand at room temperature overnight, taken up in ether, washed to neutrality with water, dried over magnesium sulfate and the solvent evaporated under reduced pressure to yield 15-hydroxy-9-oxoprost-13-enoic acid methyl ester γmaxFilm 3450, 1745 cm-1, identical to the compound of the same name described in British Pat. No. 1,218,998, cited above.
