Procedure
A solution of the product of stage (i) (0.5 g) in a mixture of methylamine in ethanol (40%, 20 ml) and methanol (10 ml) was heated at reflux for 10 h. The mixture was cooled, and partitioned between water (100 ml) and ethyl acetate (100 ml). The aqueous phase was separated, and extracted with ethyl acetate (50 ml). The organic layers were combined, dried and evaporated in vacuo to give a solid, (0.25 g) which was crystallized twice from ethyl acetate to give the title compound as microcrystals (0.1 g), m.p. 125°-135°.
