Procedure
A solution of 1.5 9 (5.2 mmol) of 2-(1-naphthylmethyl)-2-benzylacetic acid in 10 mL SOCl2 was stirred at room temperature overnight. The SOCl2 was removed under reduced pressure, the residue taken up in Et2O, and the solvent again removed under reduced pressure to give 1.6 g (100% yield) of the product as an oil.
Workup
- customThe SOCl2 was removed under reduced pressure
