1.27 g of (E)-4-[3-(1-benzylpiperidin-4-yl)propenoyl]nitrobenzene was added to a mixed solution of 10 ml of acetic acid and 2 ml of hydrochloric acid, and then 1.38 g of stannous chloride was added thereto under ice cooling. The mixture was stirred for 24 hours. During the reaction, 0.69 g of stannous chloride was further added twice. After completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was condensed under reduced pressure to obtain 5.50 g of a crude product of the title compound. This was used without purification for the next reaction.
