Procedure

To a solution of the title compound of Example 1 (152 mg, 0.29 mmol) in 1.5 mL of methanol was added 1.5 mL of 1M aq LiOH solution at room temperature. The reaction mixture was stirred for 18 hours (~1/2 complete by TLC) then an additional 1.5 mL of 1M aq LiOH solution was added. After 18 hours (complete by TLC) the reaction mixture was chromatographed (HP-20, 15×1.5 cm) eluting successively with 100 mL portions of water, 20% aq acetone and 40% aq acetone. The product containing fractions were combined, concentrated in vacuo then lyophilized to afford the title compound as a white solid (165 mg, 0.29 mmol, 100%). [α]D =+25° (c=0.17 in MeOH).
