Procedure

10 g. (0.067 mole) 4-Dimethylaminobenzaldehyde are dissolved in 50 ml. toluene and vigorously stirred for six hours with 100 ml. saturated bisulphite solution. The resulting crystalline material is filtered off with suction and washed with 50 ml. toluene. Yield: 12.8 g. (75% of theory).
