To a solution of the title product of Example 3, (1.0 g, 3.4 mmole) in 50 ml of dry tetrahydrofuran cooled to 0° was added 2.1 g (10.2 mmole) of phosphorus pentachloride. After the mixture was stirred for 30 minutes, approximately 2 ml of liquid ammonia was added, and the solution was warmed to room temperature and stirred for an additional 30 minutes. The solvent was evaporated and the residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed successively with saturated sodium bicarbonate solution, water, and brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated to dryness. The crude product, mp. 108°-115°, was not purified further. Structure assignment was supported by nmr and infrared spectra.
