Procedure
2,6-Dichlorobenzylidene-benzylamine [100 gm. 0.39 mole] and succinic anhydride [39.0 gm. 0.39 mole] were refluxed with O-xylene [500 ml] for 12 hours. On cooling, the precipitate was filtered and washed with a little ethanol. The solid was recrystallized from ethanol to give white needles. After drying over boiling isobutyl methyl ketone and under vacuum for 5 hours, the title compound had a melting point of 179°-181° C.
