Procedure

Sodium metal (0.46 g, 0.02 gr. atm.), was dissolved in methanol (I00 ml) and the product from step A was added. The reaction mixture was refluxed for 4 hours and then most of the solvent was removed in vacuo. The addition of water afforded 1.2 g of title compound which was dried and used in step C without further purification
