Procedure
To a solution of 2-bromobenzaldehyde (5.0 g, 27.0 mmol) and 5-hexyn-1-ol (3.18 g, 32.0 mmol) in triethyl amine (100 mL) was added bis(triphenylphosphine)palladium (II) dichloride (0.28 g, 0.4 mmol) and cuprous iodide (51 mg, 0.27 mmol). After heating the resulting mixture to reflux under an argon atmosphere for 1 hour, the reaction mixture was allowed to cool to room temperature and filtered. The filtrate was concentrated in vacuo, and the residue was purified by silica gel chromatography eluting with 2:1 diethyl ether/hexanes to afford a yellow oil.
