Procedure

NaNO2 (0.35 g, 5 mmol) was added to a suspension of the product of step (b) above, (0.98 g, 4 mmol), in 3N HCl (20 mL), and H2O (20 mL). The slurry was stirred for 3 hours, filtered, washed with water, air dried to give the title compound. MS(ES) m/e 277 [M+H]+.
