Thionyl chloride (0.383 ml, 4.45 mmole) was added to a solution of 2-ethyl-6-methoxy-1-methyl-1H-indole-3-carboxylic acid 73e (0.347 g, 1.48 mmole). The reaction mixture was heated to reflux for 30 min and concentrated. The residue was dissolved in 5 ml CH2Cl2 and added methylamine (2.0 M in THF, 2.22 ml, 4.44 mmole). The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hr, then concentrated. The residue was purified by flash column chromatography (2-5% CH3OH in CH2Cl2) to give yellow color solid (0.267 g, 73%). 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ7.47 (1H, d, J=8.7 Hz), 6.80 (1H, s), 6.69 (1H, d, J=8.7 Hz), 3.47 (3H, s), 3.58 (3H, s), 3.00 (2H, q, J=7.4 Hz), 2.83 (3H, s), 1.14 (3H, t, J=7.4 Hz). ESIMS (MH+): 247.10.
