5-[4-(12-Acetyloxy-dodecyloxy)-phenyl]-10,15,20-tris-(3,4,5-tridecyloxy-phenyl)-porphyrin (see Example 15) was heated to reflux in THF (10 ml) and ethanolic NaOH (excess) was added. When the reaction was complete as judged by thin layer chromatography, the solvent was evaporated under reduced pressure and the title compound was obtained by purification of the resultant residue by chromatography using a column of silica gel which was eluted with petroleum ether (b.p. 40-60° C.):THF (4:1 by volume).
