A mixture of 2-Deoxy-2-[1-(4,4-dimethyl-2,6-dioxocyclohex-1-ylidene)ethylamino]-3,4,6-tri-O-acetyl-α-D-glucopyranose (100 mg, 0.21 mmol) and trichloroacetonitrile in CH2Cl2 was cooled to 0° C. and 1,8-diazabicyclo(5.4.0)undec-7-en (2 mg) added. The reaction mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 1.5 h and at room temperature for 2 h. The solution was evaporated, and the residue chromatographed using CHCl3/EtOAc 1:1 as the mobile phase to give 2-deoxy-2-[1-(4,4-dimethyl-2,6-dioxocyclohex-1-ylidene)ethylamino]-3,4,6-tri-O-acetyl-α,β-D-glucopyranosyl trichloroacetimidate (13) (71 mg, 55%).
