Procedure
3,5-Dichloro-4-(4-methoxy-3-isopropylphenoxy)-benzylalcohol (3.21 g) (Example 6a) was added into a mixture of P2O5 (576 mg) and H3PO4 (5.5 ml) followed by addition of sodium iodide (2.43 g). The mixture was stirred at 120° C. for 15 min and then partitioned between water and ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with an aqueous solution of Na2S2O3 and brine, dried, filtered and concentrated. The residue was crystallized from petroleum ether to give 2.9 g (79%) of 3,5-dichloro-4-(4-methoxy-3-isopropylphenoxy)benzyliodide.
