37.5 g (0.15 mole) of p-octyloxy benzoic acid are put in suspension in 108 ml of deionized water. The temperature of the reaction medium is brought to between 50° C. and 55° C. and 8.7 ml (0.17 mole) of bromine are added at this temperature over a period of 7 hours 30 minutes.
