Procedure

To a solution of N-(2,6-diethylphenyl)-8-oxo-1,4,5,6,7,8-hexahydrocyclohepta[c]pyrazole-3-carboxamide (1.04 g, 3.211 mmol) in DMF (12 mL) Cs2CO3 (1.255 g, 3.85 mmol) and methyl iodide (0.22 mL, 3.532 mmol) were added. The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 1 h, then AcOEt (60 mL) was added and the organic phase washed with water (3×50 mL). The organic fraction was dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. Purification by flash chromatography on silica gel (eluant: AcOEt/hexane 1/9) provided 0.99 g (91% yield) of the title compound as a white solid.
