Procedure

A solution of 7-bromo-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,4-benzoxazepine hydrochloride (1.50 g, 5.67 mmol) (example 2, step 1), 4-chloroquinoline (0.973 g, 5.95 mmol), diisopropylethylamine (2.93 g, 22.7 mmol) in 1-butanol (15 mL) was stirred at 170° C. for 1 hour in a microwave synthesizer. The reaction mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate (100 mL), washed with saturated sodium bicarbonate (50 mL) and brine (50 mL), dried over sodium sulfate. Filtration and concentration afforded a crude brown oil that was purified by silica gel chromatography (9:1 dichloromethane/methanol) to provide 7-bromo-4-quinolin-4-yl-2,3,4,5-tetrahydro-1,4-benzoxazepine (1.70 g, 84.6% yield) as a yellow oil. MS (EI) for C18H15BrN2O: 356 (MH+).
