The reaction mixture is then diluted with ethyl acetate, washed successively twice with 2% aqueous hydrochloric acid, once with saturated aqueous sodium chloride, and then dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. After removing the solvents by evaporation under reduced pressure the resulting residue is recrystallized from acetone-hexanes to give the desired product as a white powder.
