解説シトラコン酸．イタコン酸やメサコン酸の異性体．無水イタコン酸を加熱して無水シトラコン酸としたのち加水分解すると得られる．特有の臭気をもつ無色の潮解性針状結晶．融点90 ℃(分解)．K1 5.14×10－3，K2 7.15×10－7．水，メタノール，エーテルに易溶，ベンゼンに難溶．蒸留すると無水シトラコン酸になり，さらに180 ℃ に加熱するか，硝酸あるいは水酸化ナトリウムの作用でメサコン酸になる．また，ナトリウムアマルガムの作用でメチルコハク酸になる．

用途有機合成原料。

使用Citraconic acid is used in synthetic or copolymer oils, in treating metals for adhesion of polyolefins, and in thermoplastics.
