39.7 g (0.385 mol) Of D-valinol (Aldrich) are dissolved under nitrogen in 500 ml of dry THF. 58.7 ml (0.424 mol) of triethylamine are added, the mixture is cooled to -20° C. and 32.8 ml (0.424 mol) of methyl chloroformate (Aldrich) are added dropwise to the mixture with stirring. The mixture is subsequently stirred at this temperature for 30 minutes and then brought to room temperature. 6.0 g (0.078 mol) of glycine are added and the mixture is stirred once more for 15 minutes. The precipitate is filtered off with suction, the filtrate is concentrated and the residue is taken up in diethyl ether. The organic phase is washed with 1N HCl, saturated NaHCO3 solution and saturated sodium chloride solution, dried over sodium sulphate, filtered and concentrated, and the residue is dried in a high vacuum.
