reacting a reaction mixture of sodium bicarbonate with a sufficient quantity of an aqueous hydrogen peroxide solution to convert 40 to 60 mole-% of the sodium bicarbonate to sodium percarbonate, wherein said reacting is carried out under heating to a temperature of at least 50° C., and a mixed sodium percarbonate/sodium bicarbonate compound is formed, and
