After dissolving 4-amino-3-chlorophenol (624 mg, 4.35 mmol) in dimethylsulfoxide (15 ml), sodium hydride (174 mg, 4.35 mmol) was gradually added at room temperature and the mixture was stirred for 30 minutes. N6-Methyl-7-(benzyloxy)-4-chloro-6-quinolinecarboxamide (947 mg, 2.90 mmol) was added, and the mixture was heated at 100° C. while stirring for 2 hours. After cooling to room temperature, the reaction solution was distributed between ethyl acetate and water, and the organic layer was washed with 1N aqueous sodium hydroxide, water and saturated brine and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was distilled off, the residue was suspended in ethyl acetate, the suspension was diluted with hexane and the crystals were filtered out and blow-dried to obtain the title compound (1.098 g, 2.53 mmol, 87.3%) as light brown crystals.
