Procedure

To a solution of 5-methoxy-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid (2 g, 10 mmol) prepared in stage A of example 9 in tert-BuOH (15 mL) was added NEt3 (1.2 g, 12 mmol) and diphenyl azidophosphonate (DPPA) (2.1 mL, 10 mmol). The reaction mixture is refluxed for 24 hours. The solvent is evaporated under vacuum and the residue is dissolved in AcOEt (50 mL) and washed with a saturated NaHCO3 solution. After drying, the solvent is evaporated under vacuum affording the title compound.
