5-(2-Fluorophenyl)-1-(pyridin-3-ylsulfonyl)-1H-pyrrole-3-carbaldehyde (330 mg) was dissolved in N,N-dimethylformamide (30 mL), N-bromosuccinimide (356 mg) was added and the mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 2 hr. The reaction mixture was allowed to cool, a saturated aqueous sodium hydrogencarbonate solution was added, and the mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was washed with saturated brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (eluent:hexane-ethyl acetate=7:3) and crystallized from diisopropyl ether to give the title compound as colorless crystals (yield 270 mg, 66%).
