Procedure

Compound 494 (0.06 g, 0.16 mmol) was suspended in dry CH2Cl2 (1.5 mL) under an argon atmosphere in a screw cap vessel. K2CO3 (0.044 g, 0.32 mmol) was added followed by benzyl chloroformate (0.046 mL, 0.032 mmol). The suspension was stirred for 18 h at room temperature. H2O and CH2Cl2 were added and the phases were separated. The water phase was washed with CH2Cl2 (×2) and the combined organic phases were washed with brine, dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The crude product was purified by flash chromatography using EtOAc/petroleum ether (40-60) 1:4 as the eluent. This afforded the title compound as yellow oil. 13C NMR (CD3OD) δ 198.3, 161.0 (dd), 157.8 (dd), 155.8, 151.1, 141.1, 138.0, 136.2, 135.0, 132.8, 132.7, 129.5, 129.1, 129.0, 128.7, 127.3 (dd), 126.0 (dd), 122.3, 120.6, 116.7, 112.9, 112.6 (dd), 105.7 (dd), 67.6, 19.7
