Procedure

To a solution of 54 mg of dry formamide in DMF (5 ml) was added 48 mg of sodium hydride (60%), followed by stirring at room temperature for 30 minutes. To the reaction mixture was added 275 mg of 2,6-dichloro-4-phenylquinazoline (compound No. Ia1-3), followed by warming to 85° C. and further stirring for 3 hours. The resulting reaction solution was poured into 100 ml of water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The extract was concentrated. The resulting residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (ethyl acetate:hexane=1:3) to obtain 64 mg of the titled compound. Mp.252.1° C. 1H NMR: 7.59-7.66 (3H, m), 7.72-7.81 (3H, m), 7.88 (1H, d, J=8.8 Hz), 8.02 (1H, d, J=2.0 Hz), 8.37 (1H, br. d, J=10.4 Hz), 9.71 (1H, d, J=10.4 Hz).
