To a DMF (30 mL) solution of 2-chloro-4-bromo-6-methylphenol (4.90 g) were added 2-chloro-5-nitropyridine (3.58 g) and K2CO3 (3.12 g) at room temperature. After stirring at 50° C. for 3 hours, the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. To the residue was added water, and extracted with AcOEt. The organic layer was washed with water, saturated aqueous NaCl, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, and concentrated under reduced pressure to give 2-(4-bromo-2-chloro-6-methylphenoxy)-5-nitropyridine as a brown solid (7.59 g).
