Procedure

To a DMF (50 mL) solution of 6-(4-bromo-2-chloro-6-methylphenoxy)pyridin-3-ol (5.00 g) were added imidazole (1.41 g) and TBDMSCl (2.87 g) at room temperature. After stirring at room temperature for 5 hours, to the reaction mixture was added saturated aqueous NaHCO3, and extracted with AcOEt. The organic layer was washed with water, saturated aqueous NaCl, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (n-hexane/AcOEt=9/1 to 2/1) to give 2-(4-bromo-2-chloro-6-methylphenoxy)-5-{[tert-butyl(dimethyl)silyl]oxy}pyridine as a colorless oil (6.16 g).
