10-[4-((R)-2,2,2-Trifluoro-1-methoxy-ethyl)-phenyl]-1,4-dioxa-10-aza-dispiro[4.2.4.2]tetradecan-9-one (1.41 g) was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (35.0 mL). Then hydrochloric acid (2M, 21.2 mL) was added dropwise over a period of 15 minutes to the reaction mixture. The mixture was stirred for 4.5 hours at RT and was then poured into ice/water and basified with saturated Na2CO3 solution. The aqueous phase was then extracted two times with ethyl acetate and the organic layers were washed brine, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and the solvent was evaporated. The crude material was purified by flash chromatography (gradient of ethyl acetate in heptane) to provide the title compound as a colorless solid (1.25 g). MS (ESI): 356.1 (MH+).
