Procedure
(2R,5S)-2-isopropyl-3,6-dimethoxy-5-(2-(1-trityl-1H-imidazol-4-yl)phenethyl)-2,5-dihydropyrazine (87 mg, 0.146 mmol) was dissolved in ethanol (3 mL) and concentrated HCl (few drops) was added. The mixture was heated at 70° C. for 2 h and concentrated. The residue was taken up in MeOH/water (3:1, 4 mL) and LiOH.H2O (6 mg, 0.146 mmol) was added. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 18 h and concentrated. The crude product was washed with dichloromethane, hexanes, suspended in methanol and filtered. The filtrate was concentrated to afford the desired product (30 mg, 0.120 mmol, 83%) as a white solid. 1H NMR (MeOH-d4): 0.84-1.00 (m, 2H), 1.86-1.94 (m, 1H), 2.77-2.85 (m, 1H), 4.26-4.28 (m, 1H), 7.10-7.19 (m, 3H), 7.23-7.28 (m, 1H), 7.41 (d, 1H, J=2.8 Hz), 7.64 (s, 1H).
