A solution of chloroacetyl chloride (4 mL, 0.05 mol) in chloroform (40 mL) was added dropwise to a solution of α-(2-thienyl)benzeneethanamine (10 g, 0.049 mol) and triethylamine (14 mL, 0.098 mol) in chloroform (180 mL) at 0° C. The mixture was stirred to room temperature for 1 hour. Dilute HCl (300 mL of 0.75N) was added and the reaction mixture was partitioned. The chloroform layer was separated, dried (MgSO4) and concentrated to give the amide as a light brown solid (11 g).
