Procedure

A stirred mixture of 2.8 g (0.01 mole) of 3-[3-(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]-1-azetidinecarbonyl chloride and 1.4 g (0.01 mole) of potassium carbonate in 25 ml of tetrahydrofuran was treated with 1.6 g (0.01 mole) of 1-(2-pyrimidyl)piperazine added dropwise. After stirring for 30 min, a few pieces of ice were added and stirring continued for 16 hr. The reaction mixture was diluted with 200 ml of water and the oil which separated slowly crystallized. Recrystallization from isopropyl ether yielded 2.7 g (66.3%) of fine white crystals, m.p. 127°-128° C.
