Procedure
Diethylcarbamoyl chloride (1.55 ml; 11.8 mmol) was added to cyclopropylmethyl 1,2,4-triazol-3-yl sulfone (2.07 g; 11.1 mmol) in dry pyridine (10 ml) under dry nitrogen. The resulting solution was stirred at room temperature overnight. The resulting mixture was poured into cold 2M hydrochloric acid (40 ml) and the cloudy solution extracted into ethyl acetate (3×50 ml). The extracts were combined, washed with saturated brine (50 ml), dried (Na2SO4), filtered and evaporated to afford 3-(cyclopropylmethylsulfonyl)-N,N-diethyl-1,2,4-triazole-1-carboxamide (3.10 g; 98%) as white crystals, m.p. 68°-74° C., (Found, C: 46.23; H: 6.24; N: 19.60; S: 11.29.
