To a solution of methyl 5-formylindolizine-8-carboxylate (203 mg, 1.0 mmol) and NH2OH.HCl (105 mg, 1.5 mmol) in THF (30 mL) and H2O (8 mL) at rt was added NaOAc (164 mg, 2.0 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at rt for 2 h. The mixture was extracted with EA (2×40 mL). The organic layers was dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was used in next step without further purification.
