Procedure

To a solution of 7-iodo-8-phenyl-1H-9-oxa-1,2-diaza-cyclopenta[a]naphthalen-6-one (100 mg, 0.26 mmol) in DMF (5 mL) was added sodium hydride (60% dispersion in oil, 30 mg, 0.77 mmol) and the reaction stirred at RT. After 5 min, iodomethane (0.06 mL, 0.90 mmol) was added and the reaction stirred at RT for 6 h. The reaction was quenched by addition of water (3 mL) and extracted with EtOAc (×2). The combined organic extracts were washed with brine, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The resultant residue was subjected to flash chromatography (SiO2, gradient 0 to 100% EtOAc in cyclohexane) to afford the title compound (20 mg, 20%). LCMS (Method B) RT=3.70 min, [M+H]+=403. 7-iodo-1-methyl-8-phenyl-1H-9-oxa-1,2-diaza-cyclopenta[a]naphthalen-6-one was also isolated.
