A stirred suspension of compound (xv) in conc. sulfuric acid (5 mL) and water (5 mL) were heated to 90° C. After 2 h the reaction mixture was diluted with water, neutralized with sodium bicarbonate and extracted with EtOAc (3×15 mL). The organic layer was dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated to give 6-bromo-2-(4-fluorophenyl)-2H-indazole-3-carboxylic acid (xvi) (70 mg, 35%) as a white solid. ESI-MS m/z calculated for [M+H]+: 336.98; found: 336.80.
