A solution of 3-({3-[4-(biphenyl-2-ylcarbamoyloxy)piperidin-1-yl]-propionyl}methylamino)benzoic acid methyl ester (6.80 g, 13.2 mmol) and lithium hydroxide (1.58 g, 65.9 mmol) in a 1:1 mixture of acetonitrile:water (25.0 mL) was stirred at room temperature overnight. The pH of the reaction mixture was adjusted to pH 5 with aqueous hydrochloric acid (1M) and this mixture was extracted with DCM (20 mL). The organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel flash chromatography (0-10% MeOH in DCM) to give the title compound (5.80 g, 87% yield) as an off-white powder.
