A mixture of 5,11-dihydro-6H-pyrido[2,3-b][1,4]benzodiazepine-6-thione (3.21 g, 14 mmol) and 2,2-dimethoxyethylamine (7.6 mL, 70 mmol) was heated to 95° C. for 1 hour. After cooling to room temperature the solvent was evaporated in vacuo. The crude product was used in the next step without further purification.
