3-(2-Benzyloxy-ethoxymethyl)-4-(4-chloro-benzenesulfonyl)-5,8-difluoro-chroman (0.4 g, 0.79 mmole) was dissolved in 10 ml EtOAc and Pd(OH)2 was added. Hydrogen was introduced via a balloon. The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes. The catalyst was filtered and residue was used in next step without purification. Yield: 0.32 g, 97%. 1H NMR (CDCl3 400 MHz δ 7.73 (d, J=8.1 Hz, 2H), 7.51 (d, J=8.1 Hz, 2H), 7.03 (m, 1H), 6.41 (m, 1H), 4.90 (dd, J=8.8 and 2.9 Hz, 1H), 4.57 (s, 1H), 4.39 (td, J=11.7 and 1.5 Hz, 1H), 3.68 (br, 2H), 3.41-3.54 (m, 3H), 2.30 (t, J=9.5 Hz, 1H), 3.15 (m, 1H).
