To a solution of methyl 3-(2-chlorophenyl)-1-(4-methylphenyl)-1H-indole-6-carboxylate (0.11 g, 0.28 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (2.8 mL) was added sodium hydroxide (2.0 M; 1.40 mL, 2.80 mmol). Water (1.5 mL) was added and the mixture was stirred at 50° C. After 18 h, the mixture was cooled to ambient temperature and 1.0 M hydrochloric acid was added until pH<3. The mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate (3×10 mL). The combined organic layer was washed with saturated aqueous sodium chloride (1×10 mL), dried over sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to give the title compound (98 mg): LC-MS [M+1]=362.1.
