To a solution of 4-methoxy-N1-methyl-benzene-1,2-diamine (34; 0.5 g, 0.00328 mol) and 5-bromo-pyridine-3-carbaldehyde (0.61 g, 0.00328 mol) in DMF (10 ml) and H2O (4 ml) was added OXONE® monopersulphate (2.42 g, 0.00394 mol). Reaction mass was stirred at room temperature for 3 h. The reaction mixture was basified with 10% K2CO3 solution to pH˜8-10 and extracted with EtOAc (3×20 ml). The combined organic layers were washed with brine dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated under vacuum to afford the crude compound which was purified by column chromatography to obtain title compound 2-(5-bromo-pyridin-3-yl)-5-methoxy-1-methyl-1H-benzoimidazole (35).
