Procedure

A −78° C. solution of 2-isopropyl-1-((2-methoxyethoxy)methyl)-1H-imidazole (1.50 g, 7.57 mmol) in THF (30 mL) was treated drop-wise with n-BuLi (2.5N, 4.24 mL, 10.59 mmol), stirred for 10 min, then warmed to 0° C. for 45 min. The solution was re-cooled to −78° C., treated drop-wise, with trimethyltin chloride (1.0 N, 7.19 mL, 7.19 mmol), over 5 min, warmed to RT and stirred overnight. The mixture was diluted with EtOAc, washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated to dryness to afford 2-isopropyl-1-((2-methoxyethoxy)methyl)-5-(trimethylstannyl)-1H-imidazole (2.45 g, 90%). MS (ESI) m/z: 363.1 (M+H+).
