To a solution of 2′-fluoro-5′-methoxy-2-neopentyl-[1,1′-biphenyl]-4-ol (312 mg), 3-(3-(hydroxymethyl)phenyl)propan-1-ol (199 mg) and triphenylphosphine (522 mg) in THF (10 mL) was added a 40% solution of diethyl azodicarboxylate in toluene (790 μL) at 0° C., and the mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 5 min and at room temperature for 16 hr. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (ethyl acetate/hexane) to give the title compound (277 mg) as a colorless oil.
