Procedure

To a solution of 66 (3.0 g, 12 mmol) in THF (30 mL) at −78° C. was added a solution of ethylmagnesium bromide in THF (1N, 18 mL, 18 mmol). After stirring for 4 h, the reaction mixture was warmed to 25° C. and stirred at RT overnight. The mixture was treated with NH4Cl, and diluted with EtOAc. The combined organic layers were dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by SiO2 chromatography eluting with EtOAc/petroleum ether (1:1) to afford 1.5 g (45%) of (S)—N—((R)-1-(3-fluoro-4-methoxyphenyl)propyl)-2-methylpropane-2-sulfinamide (68). LCMS (ESI) m/z: 288.1 [M+H]+.
